As an architect who designed shops, Tinker Hatfield began working for Nike in 1981. He decided to move beyond furniture design in 1985, and the rest is history. The iconic Air Max 1āthe first sneaker to publicly exhibit the Air Max unitāwhich made its debut in 1987 was Tinker's first creation.
These "Sketch To Shelf" 1s were directly influenced by Tinker's original concepts for this ground-breaking shoe. The mudguards, Swoosh, and upper overlays are painted in a sketch-like style, revealing the suede and white canvas behind the paintbrush strokes. Along with "Sketch, Property of Nike, Not For Resale" printed on the sockliner, the heels include his autograph. The design is finished with doodle lines printed on a transparent outsole.
